Prescott Jazz Society in cooperation with Prescott’s

Hassayampa Inn, the Raven Café and the town of Prescott Valley take huge steps toward establishing the Prescott area as a northern Arizona entertainment destination. The variety of live entertainment offered nightly is unsurpassed including the only active jazz district between New Orleans and San Francisco. Visitors will enjoy live-jazz nightly along with great restaurants, fine art galleries, retail shops, antique stores, and the historic attractions along Whiskey Row all within walking distance.

The new ‘Jazz Zone’ begins on Gurley St. at the Hassayampa Inn and extends along a (2) block corridor of N. Cortez St. The Zone continues to offer a variety of live-jazz in (4) great restaurants creating a rare and unique attraction bringing increased economic and cultural enhancement to the Prescott area. This is all happening as we approach the 1st Annual Spring Jazz Festival on April 1 - 3, 2011.

This is yet another of the Prescott Jazz Society demonstrations that is intended to support the 2003 Smithsonian J. A. M. initiative while serving to make all of Arizona and beyond aware of the giant steps being taken in the Prescott area.

The Prescott Jazz Showcase

Milt Cannon is the musical host of the Jazz Showcase. For the past three years the showcase has had the privilege of showcasing the best of jazz every Friday and Saturday in the historic Hassayampa Inn of Prescott, AZ The showcase often has the opportunity to present artists from as far away as Las Vegas and Los Angeles as well as musicians that are in and around Arizona. The showcase is free and open to the public. Prescott Jazz Society members enjoy member discounts for food and beverage during the showcase from 7:00 - 10:00 pm each night. About once a month the Milt Cannon Ensemble will also appear in the Raven Cafe which is another one of the four venues within the downtown Jazz Zone that presents jazz on a regular basis.

Promoting A "Jazz-Zone" In Prescott

As Milt Cannon founder of Prescott Jazz Society receives the 2011 J.A.M. Appreciation plaque from Prescott Mayor Marlin Kuykendall, he continues working to promote official recognition for the "Jazz-Zone" in downtown Prescott. Milts' vision is similar in concept to the bars along the Prescott, AZ "Whiskey Row" that feature a variety of music other than Jazz.. The Jazz Society plan is to have a group of bars/lounges/restaurants within walking distance of each other committed solely to a live-jazz environment. This idea represents a great opportunity to CAPITILIZE on the current jazz scene to build a GREAT Jazz Zone that will definitely make Prescott, AZ the entertainment destination it can easily become. As a result the cultural horizon in northern Arizona communities will be expanded thus creating a higher social consciousness which will promote and support better health for the general population.
